WAKING DREAMS is a fresh and frothy look at intergenerational conflicts in an Indian-American family. Set against the backdrops of video games and musical fantasies, this family comedy explores the hopes and heartaches of diverse characters in a small West Texas town.

Stuck in a rut that’s lasted most of her life, Latha Kumar has always escaped into a world of glamorous movies. She imagines herself as a heroine extraordinaire like her idol, Telugu film star Jayapradha. After reality comes knocking in the form of possible eviction, Latha impulsively takes an entry-level job at a struggling video game developer.

In this eccentric environment of overgrown kids and backstabbing rivals, Latha discovers something she’s never known before: passion, purpose, and her own voice. Her Bollywood dreams are finally coming true — or are they?

A heartwarming and whimsical comedy, WAKING DREAMS finds romance and laughs in the most unexpected places.

MAKING “WAKING DREAMS”

WAKING DREAMS is a completely independent production in the fullest sense. Although several of the collaborators are Hollywood veterans with decades of experience in studio films and network TV, many other crew and cast members made their debuts on this movie. Everyone involved poured their hearts into this project, and the result is a true labor of love. With appealing characters, visual flair, and a dynamic soundtrack, WAKING DREAMS will entertain and charm you.

Principal photography took place in the sister cities of Odessa and Midland, Texas. The local communities enthusiastically embraced the production and showered the filmmakers with support. Residents and businesses donated their talents, free locations, catering, housing and more. The impact of this generosity on such a modestly-budgeted production was overwhelming. As a result, the filmmakers were able to achieve the look and quality of a much bigger movie.

After a long and rewarding journey, the filmmakers are excited to share their collaboration with movie lovers everywhere. Festival audiences have responded with standing ovations. The movie reaches across cultures and age groups. The filmmakers hope you will enjoy WAKING DREAMS, too!
